A VERY BIG THANK YOU!!

We would like to thank our customers for their patience during our recent renovations. If you haven't been down to the store lately, come on down! The first thing you will notice is that it is a lot brighter which is great for the safety of our staff.

The second thing you will notice is that it is much bigger. Don't worry, we won't forget our "cozy soup place" roots. We intend to add a much more extensive line of products including dinner ideas such as stews, curries, sauces and chowders. These should help answer the dreaded question: "What's for dinner???" We also intend to increase our daily hot soup selection from three to four.

Please continue to be patient as I adjust to my new toys and catch up on production. Thanks again for your loyalty and your patronage. We believe that our customers are the best on the North Shore! Vielen Dank!!

Soup is GOOD!!

dated October 1, 2008

Over the past three months Campbell's (CPB) has jumped 17.31%. On Monday when the stock market tanked 777 points, Campbell's was the only stock on the S&P Index that had a gain -- it was a small gain but a gain.

"If you have no confidence in your banking system and no confidence in the financial markets," said Tom Sowanick, chief investment strategist of Clearbrook Financial in Princeton, N.J., "the only thing you can have confidence in is the ability to build a bunker." Filled, apparently, with cans of chicken noodle.

Our customers have always known that soup is good for you. And they have reminded us that we are only as good as their last bite!

Soup line serves variety of tastes
The Soupmeister likes to 'play and have fun,' drawing on 30 years of exec chef experience
Mia Stainsby

Vancouver Sun

I found out about The Soupmeister from a colleague who raves about the soup whenever she picks some up for lunch. Naturally, I needed to get to the bottom of it.

So the next time I was near Lonsdale Quay, I swung in to see what was exciting her. At Soupmeister, you can hop on the counter stool and eat right there or buy some from the cooler and heat at home.

Owner Ralf Dauns has been making these soups since 1995, summoning 30 years of cooking as exec chef at several international hotels. He was chef at Teahouse in Stanley Park (now Sequoia) from 1993 to 1994. (The Soupmeister was originally called The Stock Pot and later renamed.) He grew up on a winery/guesthouse in Germany.

Dauns has some 100 different soups and his offerings are always changing.

"I worked in the industry for 30 years. You pick up a few things here and there," he muses. "Sometimes I play and have fun."

The Westcoast seafood chowder with salmon, snapper, clams, shrimp, clam nectar and veggies is a good test of quality in every which way. The chunks of seafood were fresh, plentiful, and surprisingly not overcooked; flavours were quite interesting. The soup base contains lobster paste as well and chicken and tomato stock. The carrot ginger soup is creamy and rich, thanks to the cream.

His roster of soups include Irish stew, French onion, beef stew, many, many chicken soup varietals, chowders, corn and crab, Thai shrimp curry and lobster bisque, green pea with ham, German lentil with homemade spaeztle, pumpkin bisque, Hungarian cabbage, Mexican bean with chorizo, garlic mushroom.

Takeout soups come in 16- and 32-ounce sizes. The small costs $3.25 to $3.80, and the large, $6.30 to $7.20. If you eat there, a 12-ounce bowl of soup with focaccia costs $4.50 (tax included) and a 16-ounce portion is $5.25.

Yes, it's summer and it's hot, but if you're at work, chances are, you're kept nicely chilled in air-conditioned offices. And you, too, can get excited about lunch.

You may have recently noticed the Soup Meister in the Vancouver Province late November.  The article was in the 'Adventures in Dining' section written by a local food/restaurant critic.

"
Last week, after I wrote about great soup places, a reader informed me I missed one of the best joints in the city.  The Soup Meister is executive chef Ralf A. Dauns and, when I paid a visit, I was bowled over by the varieties and flavours.

Each day features a revolving menu from a soup list that could stretch to the moon and back.  Divided into beef, chicken, seafood, veggies and miscellaneous creations, look for beautiful broths like the Portuguese beef and bean, chicken risotto parmesano, Thai shrimp curry, Mexican bean with chorizo or a potato, garlic and cheddar concoction.  Great slurping that you can enjoy there or take home from the big packaged-soup showcase
."

A little publicity is always a good thing!  It's great to be recognized.
